Overview

An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate is a digital certificate that helps secure your website and verify its identity to web browsers. It encrypts information transmitted between a user's browser and the website, helping prevent sensitive information from being intercepted or read by unauthorized parties.

SSL certificates provide both encryption and authentication for secure online transactions. An SSL certificate is required for the Destwin-hosted portion of your website when processing or transmitting sensitive information, such as customer account or payment information.

SSL Certificate Options

Destwin can assist with your SSL certificate in one of two ways:

Option 1: Destwin Procures and Installs the Certificate

Destwin can procure the SSL certificate on your behalf and install it on the Destwin-hosted portion of your website.

SSL certificates are typically purchased for a defined term and must be renewed periodically. Longer certificate or service terms may be available depending on the certificate provider.

Note: The cost of the SSL certificate is not included in your Destwin one-time Setup Fee or recurring Monthly Fee. Please contact Destwin for current pricing.

Option 2: Provide Your Own SSL Certificate

You may purchase an SSL certificate independently and provide the required certificate files to Destwin for installation.

If you choose this option, please coordinate with Destwin to confirm the certificate requirements and required files before purchasing or issuing the certificate.

Information Required for Destwin to Procure a Certificate

If you would like Destwin to procure the SSL certificate on your behalf, please provide the following information:

• Country
• State
• City
• Organization Name
• Domain Name – The fully qualified domain name (FQDN) that will be secured by the certificate. This should match the URL provided to Destwin for your portal.
• Certificate Approval Email Address

As part of the certificate issuance process, the SSL certificate provider may require verification that your organization controls the domain for which the certificate is being requested.

If email-based domain validation is used, the certificate provider may send an authorization email to an approved email address associated with your domain.

Commonly accepted addresses include:

• admin@yourdomain.com
• administrator@yourdomain.com
• hostmaster@yourdomain.com
• root@yourdomain.com
• webmaster@yourdomain.com
• postmaster@yourdomain.com

Depending on the certificate provider and domain registration information, an administrative contact associated with the domain may also be eligible to receive the validation request.

Important: Please ensure that you have access to the selected email address before Destwin submits the certificate request.

What Happens Next?

After Destwin submits the SSL certificate request, the certificate provider may send one or more emails to the designated approval address.

If an approval or validation email is received, follow the instructions in the message to authorize issuance of the certificate.

Once the certificate has been issued, please forward any certificate issuance email or certificate files you receive to Destwin, if requested. Destwin will then complete the installation and configuration of the certificate for the Destwin-hosted portion of your website.

Renewals

SSL certificates must remain valid to maintain secure access to your Destwin portal. Certificates are subject to periodic renewal based on the certificate term and provider requirements.

If Destwin manages your certificate, please contact Destwin with any questions regarding renewal timing or current pricing.

If your organization manages its own certificate, please ensure the renewed certificate and any required supporting files are provided to Destwin before the existing certificate expires to avoid browser security warnings or interruptions in access to your portal.
